How to Program a Replacement Car Alarm Remote

While many car alarms come with multiple remotes, they tend to break or get misplaced. You can buy replacement remotes at automobile parts stores or electronic stores, and you can avoid paying a fee by programming them yourself.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Replacement remote
  1. Step 1

    Enter your key in your vehicle's ignition and close all of the doors and the trunk.

  2. Step 2

    Turn your key two clicks to the right, which is one click short of the "Start" position.

  3. Step 3

    Press and release the "Override" button on your car alarm remote five times in quick succession. Make sure you complete this step in under eight seconds.

  4. Step 4

    Press the "Lock" button on your car alarm remote to finish the programming sequence for that remote.

  5. Step 5

    Grab another remote and follow steps 2-4 to program it into your alarm's system. Once you have finished, remove your key from the ignition and test your remotes by pressing any button.
