1
Visit your local craft store and purchase clear, glass Christmas bulbs. They can usually be purchased for under $5 for a package of six and come in a variety of shapes. While you're there, pick up ribbon to attach to the bulb to hang them on the tree. Finally, choose craft paint (no special type needed) in the colors of your choice.

2
Clean your bulbs before you paint. Since you'll be pouring paint into the inside of the bulb, you'll need to remove the caps of the bulbs and rinse them thoroughly. Mix equal parts vinegar and water and rinse both the outside and inside of each bulb several times. Allow to air-dry.

Choose two to three colors of paint that complement each other and squeeze a moderate amount of paint into the top opening of the bulb. After you add an amount of each color, turn the bulb to allow the colors to mix with each other. This creates a marbleized effect. Continue to do this step until the inside of the bulb is covered entirely with paint. Add more paint if necessary.

4
Turn the bulb upside down and place into an empty plastic cup to dry. Any paint that drips out of the bulb will be caught by the cup. Check on the bulbs periodically to see if drying is occurring smoothly. Add more paint if you see streaks. Continue to allow the bulbs to dry for 2 to 3 days to ensure that all paint is dry.

5
Replace the cap for each bulb when bulbs are completely dry. Cut a length of ribbon, attach through the cap and tie into a bow or knot. Your bulbs are now ready to be placed on your tree.
