Search for a Missing Pet

Each year many people lose their beloved pets. Finding a missing pet can be an exhausting and difficult task to accomplish. Searching for your missing pet doesn't have to be a tiring task to accomplish, in fact searching for your pet can be an easy task to accomplish if only you follow a few simple steps.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Phone
  • Computer
  • Printing Paper
  • Volunteers
  1. Step 1

Once you are sure that your pet is missing you will need to inform your local humane society or pound immediately. Sometimes pets are picked up if they are not on a leash or are found wandering the roads. Check with your local and surrounding humane societies first to see if your missing pet has been picked up.

  2. Step 2

If your pet is not at your local or surrounding humane society you will then need to contact your neighbors, friends and family members to see if your missing pet has somehow found his way to them. Contacting your friends and family members will also be the best time to ask for volunteers to help search for your missing pet.

  3. Step 3

Next, once you get volunteers you will need to locate a computer with a printer and make fliers and posters about your missing pet. Be sure to add pictures and any other important information about your pet including his name, your phone number, your address, your missing pets health problems, etc.

  4. Step 4

Once you have made a few fliers and posters you will then need to set them out at stores, on telephone poles, etc. It's best to make as many fliers as possible so that you can get the message that your pet is missing out to the majority of the public fast and efficiently.

  5. Step 5

After you have put up all of the fliers you can then start looking for your missing pet yourself. Getting as many volunteers as possible will help in the search endeavor. Be sure to check your yard, your neighbors yard ( with their permission ) and all surrounding areas near your house.

  6. Step 6

If you have not found your missing pet by now the only thing you can do is to wait patiently by the phone for any news on your missing pet. Be sure to keep in touch with your local humane society as they get new animals into their custody everyday.

Tips & Warnings
  • It's best to add your cell phone number to the fliers so that the public can reach you anytime, especially if your out looking for your missing pet when they call.
  • Give a detailed description or a photograph of your missing pet to the humane society immediately.
  • Putting a reward on your flier will draw more public attention to your missing pet.
  • Never search for your pet in other peoples yards unless authorized to do so.
