    Noticing a red rash on your baby's soft, delicate skin can be alarming, but there is no need to worry getting a diaper rash is very common with being a baby, most babies get them.

  2. Step 2

    Wet or dirty diapers rubbing against your baby's skin is usually the cause of diaper rashes. Existing rash can worsen if bacteria or yeast are allowed to set in. Avoiding all diaper rashes is impossible but there are things you can do to make them feel better, relive them faster and minimize the chances of your baby getting them.

    Make sure that you clean your baby well using a soft washcloth with warm water. When done, gently pat the area until it's dry.

    A heavy cream made of zinc oxide should be applied to existing rashes. When the rash clears up use a lighter cream like A&D ointment to give your baby's bottom some moisture which will help prevent new rashes.

  5. Step 5

    Changing your baby's diaper often will help keep the area dry and clean. This will usually be every two hours or a bit longer for older babies.

  6. Step 6

    If the rash is taking a long time to go away, it could be the cause of yeast and you'll want to use and anti-fungal cream and see if that clears it up.

    Food allergies can cause rashes as well. if you notice a rash that looks like a red ring on your baby's bottom, experiment with the food you are feeding your baby to identify which food it could be, once found remove it from your baby's diet.

    Some suggest using hydrocortisone cream for severe rashes, long-term uses can damage your baby's sensitive skin. You should talk to a pediatrician before trying this

    Most rashes are not serious and they usually clear up fairly quickly.

    Allowing your baby to go without a diaper on as much as possible will help dry out the rash and allow it to heal quicker.

    If after all your attempts the rash is stubborn and is still there then having a pediatrician take a look is a good idea as there are some prescription creams that might be needed.

  • If along with the rash your baby has sign of an illness contact your pediatrician.
  • Different disposable diaper brands or even sizes could fix the problem and have less friction on your baby's skin.
  • With cloth diapers washing them twice and/or using vinegar to help remove anything that could cause the rash.
