Here is an article to help you to save money on your utility bill. We all need to watch our money as close as possible so we can not waste money on things that can be avoided. Here are my tips to help you save money on your utility bill.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

First, if you have the windows open, turn off the furnace/air conditioner. Seems obvious but I have been to people's homes that forget this. That is money going out your window. This will save money on your utility bill.

  2. Step 2

In the winter put insulation and plastic over your windows. This will stop the heat from getting out and will help to keep your windows from letting in the cold. This is especially important if you have older windows that stop you from being able to save money on your utility bill by not insulating the home against the outside weather.

  3. Step 3

Here is a simple thing to do to save money on your utility bill that most people do not do. Turn off the lights if you do not need them. This means only have the lights on when you really need them. It becomes a habit to turn on the lights in any room you are in, but do you really need the kitchen light on in the middle of the day even if you are in the kitchen? No, of course not. You can tell a difference, but it is very slight. Why waste the money on electricity?

  4. Step 4

To save money on your utility bill turn your thermostat a little higher in the summer and a little lower in the winter. If you normally keep it at 72 during the winter, try 70.

  5. Step 5

You can save money on your utility bill by replacing windows, doors, insulation, the furnace, and air conditioner. Figure out how much you could save on your utility bill and is it worth it? The windows and doors might be. The rest just wait until they need to be replaced. The amount you spend on them will exceed the amount you will save on your utility bill.
