1
Get a tripod. If you don't already have one, you can often pick one up for very little money at garage sales.
-
2
Pick up a lamp kit from your local hardware store. It should contain a socket, a lamp cord, a plug and a lampshade mount.
-
-
3
Remove the metal screw that holds the camera to the tripod.
-
4
Drill a hole through the plastic head of the tripod, large enough to fit the lamp socket snugly.
-
5
Mount the socket into the hole, pulling the lamp cord through the hole so it hangs below the socket.
-
6
Attach the lampshade mount to the plastic head of the tripod using small screws.
-
7
Unscrew the screw at the top of the lampshade mount, put the lampshade on top and screw it back on.
-
8
Screw in the light bulb.
-
9
Adjust the height of the lamp by extending the tripod legs.

Tips & Warnings
Heavy tripods make sturdy floor lamps. If you're having trouble pulling the cord through the hole, use a wire coat hanger.
