How to Fix Speed Stacking Mistakes

Speed stacking is an activity in which people create pyramids and different stacks using plastic cups, often in competition. While speed stacking may sound simple, it takes quite a bit of skill assembling and disassembling those pyramids in only a few seconds. Speed stacking beginners are bound to make mistakes, such as tipping over a stack of cups or dropping cups while creating a pyramid. By using the steps below, you can work on fixing your speed stacking mistakes.

Instructions

    • 1

Always have a light grip when speed stacking. Gripping the cups tightly can cause you to tip cups over or not stack them properly. Remember that the cups should only be held in the tips of your fingers.

    • 2

Practice making solid bases for your speed stacking pyramids. Remember that the bottom cups of your pyramid base need to be touching one another and should be in line with one another. Otherwise, your pyramid will be more likely to topple over while you are stacking or unstacking cups.

    • 3

Use only a circular arm motion when stacking and unstacking cups. Using a back-and-forth motion will increase the chances of knocking over a previous stack and will also slow you down.

    • 4

Allow the cups to fall down onto one another instead of forcing them down with your hands. Remember that speed stacking cups are meant to easily slide into one another. When you slam the cups down, you increase the odds of tipping them over or even knocking them off of the table.

    • 5

Try changing your lead hand. This is something you may want to consider if you are making more than one mistake and doing so over and over again. It may be uncomfortable at first, but you could find that using your "weak" hand as your lead hand could help you stack your cups faster with fewer errors.

    • 6

Remember to keep your hands on the sides of the cups at all times. Putting your hands on the top of cups when you are stacking or unstacking them will cause you to put extra force on the cups. When you do that, your pyramids are more likely to fall down into one another.

    • 7

Think ahead to your next move. You need to already be thinking about stacking or unstacking the next cup before you do it. Otherwise, your hand will not be in the proper position, and you will cost yourself time or you will accidentally knock cups over.
