How to Clean an Electric Mattress Pad
Electric, heated mattress pads are wonderful for keeping your family warm during the winter, but you need to give them extra care when they are soiled. Electric mattress pads aren't safe in the washer and dryer. Submersion in water and extended, extreme heat will damage the wiring in the pad. Your pad will either not work after being machine washed and dried, or it may present the greater risk of an electrical short while being used by you or your loved ones. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Unplug the cord from the pad when you strip the mattress pad from the bed. The cord shouldn't be exposed to water while you're spot-washing or dangling in your way while you're working.
-
2
Squirt some mild detergent or soap into a bowl and mix it with warm water. The water should be warm but not hot. The soap should be thoroughly mixed so the water is sudsy.

3
Dip your sponge or washcloth into the soapy water and dab it onto the soiled area of the mattress pad. Clean thoroughly on both the front and the back side of pad, lathering a bit of soap into the pad if needed. Repeat this spot scrub for all soiled patches that need attention.
-
4
Rinse the soap from the areas you just cleaned using cool running water from the tap. Try to limit the exposure of the water just to these areas by folding the pad as needed to work with small sections at a time.
-
5
Squeeze excess water from each section before moving onto the next spot.
-
6
Hang your mattress pad over a clothesline, drying rack or shower rod to dry for a few hours. Hanging the pad in a well-ventilated area will allow it to dry faster.
