Find out how many people used the treadmill, how often it was used, its age and where it was stored. If you have multiple options, purchase the newest treadmill possible with the least amount of usage. Also, avoid treadmills that are used frequently because it decreases the usage you will get in the future.

Avoid purchasing a treadmill stored in a basement. This environment exposes it to moisture, excessive dust and other conditions that can cause unseen damage.

5
Examine the treadmill belt for damage or fraying. Choose a treadmill with a belt that shows little use and no damage.
-
6
Test the treadmill by using it like you would on an average day. Take a 20 to 30 minute walk or run. Observe anything that indicates the treadmill is in poor condition. Shaking, squeaking and other noises indicate the treadmill is in less than ideal condition.
-
7
Negotiate the price of the treadmill with the seller. You may be able to purchase the equipment for less than anticipated.
