How to Recover a Boat Seat
Passengers usually want to sit down at some point during a boat trip, but if the seats are dirty and have mildew, they may prefer to stand. You can scrub your vinyl upholstery all you want, but eventually you need to give in and recover those seats. It's not a hard project---the corners are the only part requiring some skill---and the result is so crisp and pleasing you might have trouble getting your guests to leave their seats.
Things You'll Need
- Staple remover
- Cushion or piece of foam
- Vinyl fabric
- Sewing machine
- Pins
- Staple gun

How to Recover a Boat Seat
-
1
Take out the seat and place it on the floor or another sturdy surface.
-
2
Remove its fabric by pulling out the staples, and take out the foam or cushion.
-
-
3
Measure the fabric. Purchase new fabric of the same dimensions.
-
4
Purchase the same size cushion you had previously and insert it in the seat.
-
5
Stretch the new fabric over the seat. If you leave the corners alone, they'll be somewhat rounded and bulging. If you like a neater look, cut the fabric at the corner, turn it inside out, pin the two sides to fit the cushion and stitch them together on your sewing machine.
-
6
Staple the new fabric to the seat bottom. Again, if you want a neater look, press the edges of the fabric before you staple it.
