1
Present a pot of home-grown flowers. Grow plants like geraniums from seeds and place them in a large clay pot. The geraniums will bloom inside all winter, or outside if the grandparents live in a warm climate. Geraniums are easy to maintain and provide many flowers in vibrant colors.

Create paper from scratch to make a journal. Use a paper-making mold and old newspapers ripped into strips. Boil the strips of paper to create a mixture of mushy paper to put into the mold. Then add some food dye to the paper. Put the mushy mixture into the paper mold and then let it dry to form a sheet of paper.

Punch holes at the edges of the sheets of paper to combine pages into a book. String ribbon through the holes at the edges of the paper to hold the sheets of paper together to form a journal. Also add a cover by adding holes to pieces of stiff poster board. Use 2 pieces of poster board, one each for the front and back cover of the journal.

Make a needlepoint of a shamrock or of the home where they grew up. Or you could create a needlepoint of the family tree, or of a quote or poem they enjoy.Think about the things in life that bring them joy and create a gift that commemorates those items or places.

Bake something special. Make home-baked bread or cook and freeze special meals. A book of gift certificates for a home-baked meal on request is also a special treat.
