How to Connect a Mac to a PC

Creating a connection between a Mac and a PC is a lot easier than one might expect. If you want to transfer files between your Mac and your PC, there is a basic process that can be assisted with utilities that are built into your Mac operating system software.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Ethernet cable
  1. Step 1

    Power on both your Mac and your PC. Make sure that no programs are running on either machine.

  2. Step 2

    Connect your Mac to your PC via Ethernet cable.

  3. Step 3

    Open the "Migration assistant utility" on your Mac operating system. This is located in the "Applications>Utilities" folder on your Mac.

  4. Step 4

    Connect to your PC. Your PC will be recognized in the migration assistant.

  5. Step 5

    Select files or folders you would like to transfer. Once you have chosen the files you would like to migrate to your PC, click "Transfer." The process time will vary but will typically take 30 minutes to an hour and a half.
