Step 1
REVIEW YOUR POSSIBILITIES - Review all of your pros and cons for getting a divorce. If you have children you should not destroy their lives and get a divorce unless it is absolutely necessary such as abuse. Other than abuse, there are not many reasons to divorce when you have children. If you do not have children, divorce is an option for you.
-
Step 2
FREE CONSULTATIONS - Call local divorce attorneys and request a free consultation. Most attorneys will offer a free consultation of some sort. It may be over the phone. This will give you a good idea on what to expect from the attorney. Make sure you ask all of the pertinent details such as what fees and costs you can expect, how long will the process take, what court proceedings you should expect, etc.
-
Step 3
CHOOSE AN ATTORNEY - After you have finished your free consultations, you will need to choose an attorney. Choose the one that you feel the most comfortable with. You will need to have a good relationship with this person and trust them to do a good job. Do not choose someone that makes you feel uncomfortable or that does not answer all of your questions clearly. Finding a divorce attorney can be very emotional due to the circumstances, try to keep a level head when choosing an attorney.

on 5/15/2009 Good suggestions that should be helpful for those going through the stress of divorce. The divorce is bad enough: the attorney should be helpful, not more stress.
