A great Sunday School teacher is important to any church's education program. These teachers are often able to bring their students closer to God. Here are some tips on being a great Sunday School teacher.

1. Pray. Pray for guidance, for wisdom, and for peace that this is something that you should be pursuing. Be sure that being a Sunday School teacher will not interfere with the other obligations that you already have in your life.

2. Talk to your priest or pastor. Let him or her know that you are interested in being a Sunday School teacher. Ask if you can observe a few classes to get an idea of what is expected. Find out which age group you will be teaching.

3. Read through the lesson several days before your Sunday School class. Gather any materials necessary, and submit any receipts to the church office, if applicable. Be sure that you have everything you need for your lesson prepared at least a day or two in advance.

4. Take cues from your students. Depending on the age group that you are serving, you may need to cut certain aspects of the lesson short or spend more time on others. Let the students take breaks, depending on the length of the class. Allow children to switch positions often. Try to alternate sit-down activities with activities that will engage large motor skills whenever possible.

5. Pray before and during each class, both alone and with the children. Part of being a great Sunday School teacher is teaching students the importance of having a regular prayer time with God. Ask the students for prayer requests, and commit to praying for your students during the week.
