  1. Step 1

Will child obesity on the rise and all the complications that can follow it becomes very apparent that keeping kids health will not only benefit their lives but will save you a lot of stress and headaches as well as money. Here are some things you can do to help your children.

  2. Step 2

Exercise isn't just push-ups and running, it can be anything active, the idea is to just get your child's body active and moving. Allowing your child to choose which activities to do gives them a sense of involvement and can be encouraging for them to do more.

  3. Step 3

Simple activities like tag or jump rope are great for younger children, older children would benefit from more interactive activities such as catching a Frisbee/ball to riding a bike or even kicking a ball around. For teenagers; joining sports leagues, or signing up for classes such as dance or karate, not only would these be very helpful for your teenager they would allow them to make friends with other teenagers interested in being active and for bonds to help keep them active and healthy. Find out what they would like to do and help them accomplish it.

  4. Step 4

The earlier your children get into physical activities the better chance they have of doing it through their lives as they get older. When children are younger they are much easier to motivate. For older children such as teenagers getting them motivated through your actions and activities is a great way to not only show a good example but to also allow them to feel like they are just doing something with you and not being forced to do it. Making it fun and exciting is key, they will see your enjoyment and want to be a part of it.

  5. Step 5

A great way to help get your children active is to make physical activities part of your families everyday normal life, so that it's normal for your children as they grow up. Taking your family hiking, walks in the park/neighborhood, camping, or even just playing in the backyard will be beneficial to everyone. Families that are active together are not only healthier but have much closer relationships.

  6. Step 6

With busy lives, careers and even school it gets hard to set time aside to exercise. How can we expect our children to be active and exercise if we aren't? The best way to teach them is to show them, if they see you doing it they will follow. You must make exercise part of your daily life and a common assurance in your house hold.

Tips & Warnings
  • Having items around to use in activities is very helpful; things such as bikes, balls, trampoline or even sprinklers.
  • Taking a part in the activities your children do can be very beneficial, rather then just watch your children be active.
  • If your child is overweight, do not push him/her. Consistency is key, get them outside moving as much as you can as well as providing them with good food to give them energy.
