How to Make a Wood Storage Bench

Things You'll Need

• Tape measure
• Pencil
• Ruler
• Hand saw
• Wood screws
• Wood glue

Instructions

1. 

   Purchase the following supplies from your local hardware store.
   - 2 12-foot 2x4
   - 1 8-foot sheet of plywood
   - 1 8-foot 1x4
   - 2 hinges
   - 1 small container of wood glue
   - 1 small container of 1 inch wood screws
   - 1 small container of 2 1/2 inch wood screws

2. Cut the 2x4 lumber in the following sizes:
   - 4 12-inch pieces. This will make one side of the wood bench.
   - 4 12-inch pieces. This will make the other side of the wood bench.
   - 4 44-inch pieces. This will make the length of the wood bench.

   Cut the 8-foot sheet of plywood in the following sizes:
   - 2 12x12 inch pieces. This will be the sides of the wood bench.
   - 4 12x48 inch pieces. This will be the top, bottom, front and back of the wood bench.

   Cut the 1x4 lumber in the following sizes:
   - 7 12 inch pieces. This be used on the bottom and sides of the wood storage bench.

   The wood storage bench should measure 48 inches long by 12 inches wide and 12 inch high.

3. 

   Build the frame of the wood storage bench.
   - Connect the 2x4 pieces of lumber. Glue the 12-inch pieces together to form the sides of the wood bench. Use the 2 1/2 inch screws to hold each piece of wood in place.
   - Glue the 44-inch pieces to the 12-inch frames. Use the 2 1/2 inch screws to hold each piece of wood in place.
   - Allow the glue to dry.
   - This should appear as the frame of the wood storage bench.

4. Add the plywood.
   - Glue the bottom piece of plywood to the frame. Use the 1-inch screws to hold the wood in place.
   - Glue the side pieces of plywood to the frame. Use the 1-inch screws to hold the wood in place.
   - Attach the 2 hinges to the last piece of plywood and to the frame. Use the 1-inch screws to connect the hinges. The hinges will allow the top piece of plywood to open and close. This will be the lid to the wood storage bench.

5. 

   Attach the 1x4 lumber to the bottom and sides.
   - Attach 3 pieces of the 1x4 to the bottom. One piece should be placed at each end. The third piece should be placed in the middle. Use both the wood glue and the 2 1/2 screws to attach the wood. These three pieces act as leg flooring to the wood bench.
   - Attach 1 piece on each side of the wood bench. The piece should be attached at the top using the both the wood glue and 2 1/2 inch screws. These pieces will act as handles for the wood bench.
   - Attach 1 piece on each side of the wooden bench. The piece should be attached at the bottom using the both the wood glue and 2 1/2 inch screws. These pieces will act as decorative edging for the wood bench.
