Things You'll Need:
- sandals
- deep pan, for soaking the ingrown toenail
- tooth pick or cotton
-
Step 1
Soak the foot with the ingrown toenail in warm water for at least an hour. Lift up the edge of the nail that is ingrown and gently insert a toothpick or a rolled up piece of cotton ball, underneath the nail. This will help to straighten the toenail as well as keep the nail from digging into the skin.
-
Step 2
Soak the foot with the ingrown toenail 5 times a day, for at least 30 minutes. Each day try to push the toothpick or cotton a little further under the toenail.
-
Step 3
Wash the ingrown toenail area twice a day with a mild soap and water.
-
Step 4
Wear an open toed shoe, such as sandals, to keep pressure off the ingrown toenail.
-
Step 5
These steps may need to be repeated for two weeks or more. The toenail will need time to grow out enough so that it no longer digs into the skin of the toe.
