Cook a New York strip steak like a professional with just a few simple tips. All you need is a grill and a few simple ingredients to make a perfect New York strip steak. The suggestions below are for an average one to one and a half inch strip steak. Learn how to cook a New York strip steak below.

Things You'll Need:

  • Grill
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Garlic Powder
  1. Step 1

    Preheat the grill to 425 degrees. If you do not have a grill at your disposal you can easily use a broiler instead, just place the steak on a broiler pan and follow the time suggestion below.

  2. Step 2

    Sprinkle salt, pepper and garlic powder onto the raw steak. You may want to add a marinade, but that is optional. New York strip steaks taste great without additives.

  3. Step 3

    Place the New York strip steak on to the grill and close the lid.

  4. Step 4

    Allow the steak to cook for 8 minutes. Flip the steak over and allow it to cook for an additional 6 minutes.

  5. Step 5

    Remove the steak from the grill and allow it to sit for 5 minutes before slicing. Slice opposite the grain in thin, even slices.
