How to Make a Braided Bow String
A braided bow string is the sturdiest option for a long bow, and a well-constructed string can last for years with proper maintenance. You can make your own braided bow string if you follow these relatively simple guidelines.

Measure out and cut the string. Cut three lengths, with about a foot extra on each. You will need this length since the braiding takes up string and also in order to tie loops at the ends.

Secure one end of all three strings in the clamp (or vise).

Braid using traditional braiding pattern: left string into middle, right string into middle, left string into middle, etc.

Tie off the braid four inches from the end of the strings and secure the end to keep tension on the bowstring.

Keep tension on the string for at least two hours until the braid has evened.

Wax the bowstring using your fingers while it is still under tension. Twist your fingers as you stroke the length of the string, alternating directions to smooth with the grain of the braid.

Remove the first end from the clamp and tie it off.

Tie loops in the ends of the bowstring. You can use your bow to tie the loops around, but insert a pencil with the bow while you tie the loop around it to provide extra room which will allow you to string and unstring your bow more easily.
