How to Donate a Typewriter
Technology during the past two decades has made the old-fashioned typewriter more or less obsolete. Because very few people purchase typewriters, donating yours is the ideal choice. Throwing it away would be environmentally irresponsible.

1
Find out what kind of typewriter you have and its age. The hallmark of a typewriter is usually located on the front below the keys. If you have a typewriter with a keyboard that is in alphabetical order as opposed to the now standard qwerty keyboard, the typewriter can be as old as 1808, according to The Classic Typewriter Page. If you find you have an antique, a local museum might accept your donated typewriter.

2
Give your typewriter to a local homeless shelter. Computers can be expensive, and homeless shelters are always in need of a way to process words to create resumes.

3
Donate your typewriter to a nursing home. Some older people are very computer-savvy. But some are reluctant to become computer-literate. Some senior citizens have practiced for many years to become fast typists on a typewriter and find the modern keyboard confusing and cumbersome. A typewriter would be a welcome treat in a nursing home.

Donate your typewriter to the Salvation Army. If you call the Salvation Army, it will pick up your working typewriter and sell it to someone who wants it. The proceeds will be added to a fund that provides clothing and food to those who need it.
