How to Eliminate Background Noise on Music Downloads

Music downloads are cheap and convenient. However, one of the downsides is the background noise. It sounds like a hum or a hiss. At best, it's a little annoying. At worst, it can totally ruin your listening experience. The easiest way to eliminate background noise in music downloads is to use free audio editing software, like Audacity.

Things You'll Need

• Mac or PC
• Music File
• Audacity

Instructions

1. Download Audacity from download.com for free.

2. Run Audacity on your Mac or PC.

3. Open the file that you want to edit.

4. Select a small part of the track where there's no music, just white noise. This will, most likely, be at the start or the end of the track.

5. Go to the Effect menu and select "Noise Removal."

6. Click on "Noise Profile." The window will disappear.

7. Select the entire track.

8. Go to the Effect menu and select "Noise Removal" once again.

9. Click on "Remove Noise."

10. Save the file.
