Most children want to try a sport. If your child is going to play baseball, it is important for him to have the right baseball mitt and for it to be the right size.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Try and buy a baseball mitt at a store and not online. The easiest way to figure out a good baseball mitt size for your child is by simply having him try on mitts and see which one fits best.

  2. Step 2

Keep in mind that the baseball mitt will expand and get more loose as it is broken in. Don't buy a baseball mitt that is too big simply because the smaller size is a little tight.

  3. Step 3

If there isn't a sporting goods store nearby and you have to buy a baseball mitt online, there are recommended sizes for different ages. It is recommended that kids ages 5 and 6 should wear a baseball mitt that is size 10 or 10 1/2. Kids who are 7 and 8 should wear size 10 1/2 or 11. Kids from ages 9 to 12 should wear a size 11 or 11 1/2. High school kids should use a baseball mitt between the sizes of 11 and 12 1/2.

  4. Step 4

When kids get to high school, they might want different size baseball mitts depending on if they are outfielders or infielders. Infielders should have a smaller mitt, close to size 11, because they field ground balls and need to get the ball out of the mitt quicker. Outfielders don't have to worry about getting the ball out of the mitt as much as just catching it. An outfielder might want a glove closer to the 12 1/2 size.

  5. Step 5

If you buy a baseball mitt for your child online, keep his size in mind. If your child is big for an 8 year old, you might want to buy a glove sized for a 9 year old instead.
