Ogg is an open source, patent-free professional audio encoding and streaming format. Ogg is a compressed format, similar to MP3, but has an added advantage of not requiring licensing fees. As a compressed format, ogg files are much smaller than .wav files. Although ogg is primarily used on Linux systems, plugins are available for both Windows and Macintosh based computers. Ogg offers better audio quality than MP3 with file sizes very similar to MP3.
