Step 1
Install or update anti-virus software. A good anti-virus program and a firewall can prevent Generic9 from infecting your computer. If you do not have one on your computer, choose a free program such as Avast, or fee-based software such as Norton or McAfee. Follow the directions for updating or installing.

Clear your temporary Internet files. This is important to get rid of the site that you may have been infected by. The Trojan horse has a low threat, but it does open a backdoor for other computers to send pop-ups to your computer or it can allow someone to open files on your computer without you doing it. If your computer is running slow or files are opening without your command, follow the next steps to remove the Trojan from your computer.

Restart your computer in safe mode. Do this by selecting "Restart" from the Start menu. When the first screen appears, repeatedly press the F8 key until your computer moves to the next screen.

Select "Safe Mode" from the menu on this screen. You can press the number associated with the name or move you mouse to the words "Safe Mode" and press Enter. Allow the computer to finish booting up in safe mode. No programs are running in the background when you use safe mode. This makes it easier to remove Generic9.

Click on your anti-virus software and follow the prompts to start the scan. When the software finds Generic9, it asks you what to do. If you are unsure of any action, quarantine it. With this Trojan, you can delete it and be safe. Then allow the scan to complete.

Reboot the computer to normal operation. At this time, you can run another scan to make sure that you have deleted Generic9. Then you can go about your Internet surfing with no problems.
