A picture collage is a much better way to show off the images of your friends, family and life events than merely keeping them on a hard drive. If you place your photo collage into a frame you can hang them throughout your house. Making a picture collage is more fun than sticking photos into a picture album and you can make it even more creative by creating a theme.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Collect the photos you wish to include in the collage. The most creative way to do this is by coming up with a theme. Themes can include anything from categorizing people like friends and families to a locale like Disney World to an event like a wedding.

  2. Step 2

Arrange the photos into a pattern on the poster board. Don't be afraid to go crazy with the scissors. Because a collage has limited space, you want to highlight the important elements in the photo. This can mean cutting away everything but the head as well as removing all the people to get just the background image. Take time when arranging the collage because once glue gets into the game, it becomes much more difficult to edit and reposition.

  3. Step 3

Decorate with stickers or use a magic marker to enhance your collage. Sticks and drawings can lend a collage a livelier effect. One very fun way to add a little pizazz to your picture collage is to fold over a small piece of tape and attach to one or two photos so that they stick out a little, creating a 3-D effect.

  4. Step 4

Attach any non-3D photos to the poster board using acid-free adhesive. It is best to pick out more photos than you think you may need. This is preferable to finding more empty space than you planned, which forces you to quickly locate additional photos that may not match your theme.

  5. Step 5

Place the poster board into an appropriate-sized frame. Or, if you prefer not to have a frame, use heavy duty construction paper to create your own frame. Attach to the wall, or for a more startling effect, hang from the ceiling.
