1
Gather the copper you'll use for your project. You will need thin sheets of copper as well as some copper scraps. You can buy sculpture materials online in sheets or bars (see Additional Resources). If you intend to make a lot of copper sculptures, consider buying copper scrap in bulk (see Additional Resources).

Use a black marker to draw a horse pattern on a thin sheet of copper. Draw the horse pattern twice and cut the pieces out using metal cutters. Bend the two pieces to create a space between the two halves to give the horse dimension. Use a soldering gun to join the two pieces of the horse's body together.

3
Cut a length of copper from scrap and fashion a tail for your horse. Thin copper is flexible and can easily be twisted into shape. Cut small grooves into one end of the tail and fan the copper out to form the hair at the end of the tail, then solder the tail to the body of your horse.

4
Cut the horse's mane. Cut each strand individually from scrap copper and solder them to the horse one at a time or cut a strip from scrap copper and make each side jagged and fold the copper to fit on your horse's mane. The second method is less time consuming but using individual strips produces a more detailed effect.

5
Cut a saddle and bridle from the remaining copper, bend to fit your horse, and solder the rig onto your horse to add a decorative touch. You can also solder copper eyes onto the horse if you want to add detail. If you have extra copper, bend a piece into a circular shape for a stand and solder copper horse to the stand for display.
