How to Make a Folding Leather Coin Purse

A folding leather coin purse can be a classy addition to your purse. It can look beautiful and allow you to store your change. It can also make a great gift. Making one just requires basic sewing skills, so it can be a good way to learn about working with leather on your sewing machine. In just 1 hour or so, you can have your own 5-by-3 inch leather coin purse.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

• 1/6 yard of thin leather
• Ruler
• Paper bag
• Iron
• Ironing board
• Scissors
• Sewing machine
• Thread
• Leather sewing machine needles

1. Mark and cut out a 12-by-5 1/2 inch strip of leather.

2. Cover your leather with a paper bag. Iron down 1/4 inch all around the leather rectangle you cut out.

   Top flap

   Fold down and press 3 inches of the wallet, and sew around all four sides of the piece you folded down. This will serve as the top flap.

4. Pull up and fold over 3 inches from the bottom of the leather. Press the leather down.

5. 
   Creating the pocket

   Sew along the sides, close to the edge and back, stitching at both ends. This will create your pocket.

6. Fold over and press the lined top flap you created in Step 3.
