How to Make a Folding Leather Coin Purse

A folding leather coin purse can be a classy addition to your purse. It can look beautiful and allow you to store your change. It can also make a great gift. Making one just requires basic sewing skills, so it can be a good way to learn about working with leather on your sewing machine. In just 1 hour or so, you can have your own 5-by-3 inch leather coin purse.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    Mark and cut out a 12-by-5 1/2 inch strip of leather.

  2. Step 2

    Cover your leather with a paper bag. Iron down 1/4 inch all around the leather rectangle you cut out.

  3. Step 3
    Top flap
    Top flap

    Fold down and press 3 inches of the wallet, and sew around all four sides of the piece you folded down. This will serve as the top flap.

  4. Step 4

    Pull up and fold over 3 inches from the bottom of the leather. Press the leather down.

  5. Step 5
    Creating the pocket
    Creating the pocket

    Sew along the sides, close to the edge and back, stitching at both ends. This will create your pocket.

  6. Step 6

    Fold over and press the lined top flap you created in Step 3.
