How to Glue a Shower Pan Liner

C.L. Rease

Tiled showers require a shower pan liner to keep water from seeping past the tile and damaging materials located around the shower. The standard sizes of shower liner can require a seam that needs to be glued to ensure a watertight connection. Properly gluing a shower pan liner seam requires the correct type of adhesive and the correct amount of overlap. Not using the correct adhesive allows the lapped seam to separate and water to pass by the liner. An incorrect lap does not provide enough protection against water leaks.

Showers require a sealed base.

Step 1

Place an open tube of silicone caulk in a caulk gun. Apply a 1/4-inch-tall bead of silicone caulk to the flange surrounding the shower drain.

Step 2

Set the shower pan liner in the shower base. Unfold both pieces of the shower pan liner inside the shower base. Overlap the shower pan liner halves by 2 inches. Secure the liner according to the manufacturer's installation instructions and your local building codes.

Step 3

Fold one side of the shower liner pan away from the lapped seam.

Step 4

Apply shower liner adhesive to the bottom of the folded side of the liner and the top side of the lower piece of shower liner pan with the brush attached to the lid of the adhesive can.

Step 5

Press the two glued faces of shower pan liner together. Run a rubber roller over the glued seam until no air bubbles remain between the two pieces. Allow the seam to cure for 6 to 8 hours before water-testing the glued seam.
