If you have fibromyalgia, you know how important it is to have a healthy diet, but sometimes, you just do not know what is healthy to eat and what you should avoid. Learn how to eat a healthy diet when living with fibromyalgia and start feeling a little better. The muscle cramps and fatigue can be eased with a healthy diet. You just need to know what foods can help with that. Healthy diets can also prevent fibromyalgia pain from flaring up.

Instructions

    • 1

Eat foods that contain healthy fats. This includes almonds, cashews, peanuts and walnuts. Healthy oils include sesame oil, canola oil and olive oil. These foods are healthy because they contain monounsaturated fats.

    • 2

Include foods with healthy proteins. These foods include soy burgers, hot dogs, fish, round steaks, turkey breast and chicken breast. The best foods are those that are low in cholesterol and saturated fat. Eat small helpings four to five times a day to reduce the chance of fatigue from eating a larger portion.

    • 3

Choose foods that are considered "light" carbohydrates, such as mushrooms, string beans, cabbage, broccoli, spinach, lettuce, cherries, blueberries and strawberries. Onions, oranges and apples can be eaten, as long as you stick to small portions. You should always eat carbohydrates with a food that contains protein. A carbohydrate-only meal can increase fatigue.

    • 4

Include some wholegrain foods. This could include brown rice or oatmeal. The oatmeal should be unprocessed and cooked slowly.

Tips & Warnings

  • A sample meal might be 1/4 cup of blueberries, 1/2 cup brown rice, 1/2 tsp. of olive oil and 3 oz. of fish. Another sample meal may be 1/4 cup of cherries, 1/2 cup of cooked oatmeal, 2 walnuts and 3 oz. of chicken breast.

  • Planning the meal is important and you should plan for small portions to avoid fatigue and stressing the body.
