How to Add a Hub to an LAN Network
LAN networks are easily upgraded and expanded as network needs increase. One of the simplest ways to expand the ports of a simple wired network is by adding a hub. A hub provides more Ethernet ports for additional computers or other devices that may require a wired connection to the network.

Adding a Hub to the Network
-
1
Turn off the power to the network modem and router. This ensures that introducing the hub will go smoothly.
-
2
Plug an Ethernet cord into a port on the router, and connect the other end to the hub. It is usually best to use port one for the primary connection to the network.

-
3
Connect any network devices such as computers or printers to the hub using Ethernet cables. You can still use any free ports on the router as well.
-
4
Plug the hub's power adapter into a power supply, and turn the hub on if it has an on/off switch. Most hubs have red and green LED lights to indicate connection issues.
-
5
Power on the modem, router and other network devices. Test to ensure that the connections are working. The hub will now be working with the network.

Tips & Warnings
If you experience any problems with connection, power cycle the hub, router and modem.
Hubs can get very warm. Try not to place a hub on a carpeted floor, and keep it in a well-ventilated area.
