Installing a shallow well pump will provide needed water from your well to your home. Consider doing this project yourself instead of calling a plumber; you will be saving money and gaining needed experience for when the pump needs to be replaced in the future.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Plumber's wrench
  • Teflon pipe tape
  • Electrical wiring
  • Water pipe
  • Water pump
  • Two male-threaded nipples (to join the ports on the pump to the water piping)
  1. Step 1

Turn off the electricity to the well pump from the main breaker.

  2. Step 2

Go outside to the well pit.

  3. Step 3

Wrap Teflon tape around the threads of the pipe that comes from the well and the pipe that goes to the pressure tank.

  4. Step 4

Screw the pipe from the well into the inlet on the shallow well pump. Tighten with your plumber's wrench.

  5. Step 5

With your plumber's wrench, screw and tighten the pipe that goes to the pressure tank onto the outlet of the shallow well pump.

  6. Step 6

Wire the pump in by matching wire color; black is hot or positive and white is negative. Screw the wires onto the wiring terminal of the well pump. You may now turn on the electricity and proceed with testing.
