How to Make Thread Earrings

Thread earrings, also known as ear threads, are a style of earring that features a very small chain with a straight length of wire at the end. The wire feeds through the pierces hole and pulls the chain through as well. On the other end of the chain is the actual earring decoration, such as beads or a small charm. Thread earrings are held in via gravity, and they feature a double dangle on either side of the piercing. You can easily make your own thread earrings with a few specific supplies.

Instructions

    • 1

Thread your beads onto the the head pin.

    • 2

Make a loop on the excess wire at the top of the head pin near the beads, using your round nose pliers. Wrap the extra wire under the loop around the head pin to secure it. Trim off any excess wire with your wire snips.

    • 3

Twist open the jump ring on the end of the ear thread and slip the loop on the head pin over it. Twist the jump ring closed. Repeat the process for the second earring.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be sure to use light weight beads as heavy beads will cause the ear threads to slip as they will over come the gravity and friction that holds them in place. You can place a light weight charm directly on the jump ring instead of using beads and head pins.
