When Christmas comes around, everyone wears their festive gear. Standard wear for those showing the Christmas spirit is the drooping red or green coned hat with a white poof ball at the end or the classic reindeer antlers, but if you are feeling creative and want to stand out in the winter crowd, a winter jester hat is just the thing.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 3 pieces of felt (white, red, green)
  • Scissors
  • Cotton balls
  • Glue
  • Needle and thread
  • Small Christmas decorations or ornaments
  1. Step 1

Cut a 2-inch rectangular piece of white felt. Wrap it around your head to see what the proper measurement is for a fit on your head. Cut any remaining excess from the rectangular piece.

  2. Step 2

Cut out a 3-inch long triangle from a red felt piece. Then lay out the white felt head band and determine how many triangle pieces you need by counting how many 3-inch pieces fit along the band.

  3. Step 3

Cut out the remaining triangle pieces that you need based on your calculations in step 2. Make half of the triangles green and half red.

  4. Step 4

Glue each triangular piece on the white felt band. Alternate the red and green colors, making sure the last piece ends with the opposite color of the first one.

  5. Step 5

Stitch ornaments at the end of each triangle. The classic decoration for this hat is jingle bells, or for a more festive look you can use stars, snowflakes or Christmas trees.

  6. Step 6

Glue cotton balls on the outside end of the white band.

  7. Step 7

Sew together the ends of the band. Be sure to put it on around your head one last time to any final adjustments.
