Fishing a Banjo Minnow is essentially a method of presenting a plastic imitation minnow in a realistic swimming manner. Introduced several years ago by means of infomercials, the Banjo Minnow kit was touted as one of the most effective means of catching fish ever invented. Throughout the years, Banjo Minnows have reportedly caught thousands of fish covering a wide range of species. The Minnow is relatively easy to rig, however, there is a slight learning curve as the initial rigs are assembled.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Soft plastic minnow
  • No crimp screw in hook holder
  • Live bait or "shiner" hook
  • O rings to fit hook shank
  • Small rubber band to fit from barb to eye
  1. Step 1

Screw the no crimp hook holder into the nose of the minnow. The screw should be inserted completely into the bait so that only the no crimp eye is exposed.

  2. Step 2

Slide an O ring over the point and barb of the live bait hook down to the mid point of the bend.

  3. Step 3

Insert the point of the hook through the no crimp eye of the screw in hook holder. The no crimp eye should rest against the O ring on the hook.

  4. Step 4

Slide another O ring over the point of the hook and down the bend. Bring the O ring to the no crimp eye of the hook holder and leave a small amount of room for free movement.

  5. Step 5

Insert the rubber band through the eye of the hook forming a small loop. Feed the other end of the rubber band around the eye wire and through the loop and pull down tight. Stretch the rubber band down to the barb of the hook and secure behind the barb.

Tips & Warnings
  • Banjo Minnow kits are available online and from a variety of stores. However, the necessary parts, also available from sporting good and big box stores, may be assembled at a fraction of the cost.
  • Use caution when handling the bait hook as these will be honed very sharp from the manufacturer.
