How to Care For Your Silk Sheets

Anyone who sleeps on man-made fibers knows they can be uncomfortable. they can be sticky during the humid summer months or chilly during the winter months. Even though cotton sheets are better than synthetic fibers, they can be coarse even with high thread counts and wrinkle easily. Sleeping on silk sheets are a luxury for some sleepers but bit more costly than other fibers. Caring for them is of concern since silk sheets are delicate.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    Silks sheets do best washed in a delicate cycle with cold water in a washing machine. Don't assume the sheets are meant to be washed in cold water. Check on the label for washing instructions. Some silk sheets require hand washing in cold water.

  2. Step 2

    Don't use normal detergent and bleach regardless of how you wash them. The chemicals found in traditional laundry powders are too potent for silk sheets and can cause them to break apart. Use a detergent formulated for silk sheets.

  3. Step 3

    When you get ready to dry them, never wring the excess water as silk sheets are fragile. Gentle shake the sheets to remove excess water and then hang them indoors to dry.

  4. Step 4

    If an emergency happens an you are out of detergent you a mild soap like Ivory.

Tips & Warnings
  • Never dry silks sheets in dryers. Air-dried sheets last longer. the sun has the same dmaging effect as the dryer and can fade color.
