Designing a t shirt for a member of a NPHC sorority fraternity member can be easy with a little personal information and a Greek specialty store with the capabilities of personalizing.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Personal information about the Greek Member
  • Information on the symbols of the organization
  • Certified Greek Vendor
  1. Step 1

When designing a t-shirt for a member of a Black Greek Sorority or Fraternity, you must take the time to learn basic information about the organization. Find out their official colors, symbols, mascots, stones and/or flowers. Depending on how custom you are going to make the shirt, these may be items that you chose to have ironed, or embroidered onto the t-shirt.

  2. Step 2

The basic unwritten rule of most Black Greek sorority and fraternity t-shirts is that the symbols are on the front of the shirt. When placing the symbols on the shirt use the colors of the organization ONLY. In many Greek stores, there is the option to design the symbols with different fabric patterns such as paisley, plaid and stripes. Stay away from any patterns.

  3. Step 3

Find out the Greek member's chapter of initiation. This could be anywhere from one Greek symbol (single-lettered Chapter) to three if he/she was initiated at the collegiate level. If you are personalizing the shirt, the chapter if generally placed on the sleeve of the shirt. Some may have preferences of the left sleeve over the right. Take a look at some of the shirts already made to get an idea.

There are members who were initiated in Alumnae Chapters. In this instance, the Alumnae Chapter may bear the name of the city in which it is located. If this is the case, there may be an abbreviated version of the chapter or you may just opt to not place the chapter on the sleeve all together.

  4. Step 4

On the other sleeve you may want to place the date of initiation. There are generally two ways to display initiation dates. You can either go with the season and year or the full date. For instance, someone initiated on April 29, 2007 or the Spring of 2007 you would display this on the sleeve in one of the two following ways: Spr 07 or 4-29-07

  5. Step 5

On the back of the t-shirt, it would be safe to have information such as line number, individual line name, group line names and any other significant information. If you choose to design the back of the shirt, always make the Greek member's line number prominent and in the middle of the back of the shirt. Individual line names are usually at the top and group line names would appear at the bottom.

  6. Step 6

The safest way to purchase a shirt is to stick with the colors of the organization. Each of the Black Greek fraternities and sororities have two official colors. Do not stray away from those colors.

Tips & Warnings
