Sorority and Fraternity members love paddles and other wood items with personalized information. When speaking of personalized information, this would include line names, crossing dates, line number, chapter affiliation and other special symbols specific to the organization. You will want to gather this information from the recipient. Before you spend a large amount of money on gifts you want to be sure that you have the right information. A paddle with incorrect information will not be displayed.

Decide the size of the Greek paddle or wood piece. Are you going for a standard sized paddle or something larger. Greek wood pieces can be as small as a few inches and as large as 6 feet. Size will have a large impact on the price.

Lighter wood stains may look better with certain organization colorsDecide on the look of the wood. Are you going for a stained wood color or raw wood. Depending on the colors of the organization, some stain colors look better than others.

Choose the sizes and styles of the lettering that will go on the wood piece. A very unique style of personalizing a sorority or fraternity paddle is by hand painting. This takes great skill and a steady hand. However, many paddles are designed with glue-on wooden letters that come in various sizes. These wood lettering pieces can be hand painted for a more unique look.

Decide on the type of varnish you would like for your wood piece. Varnishes are what give the piece it's shine. Thicker lacquers are more permanent and are effective in holding lettering in place.

Be creative. A Greek paddle may not be the most unique gift but if done in a different way it will certainly stand out amongst the crowd. Look into other pieces using wood such as plaques, clocks and door hangers.
