Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Personal Greek information of gift recipient
  • Greek Paraphernalia Specialty Store
  1. Step 1

Take the time to find out information about the Greek organization and the National Pan Hellic Association. Are there special mascots or symbols related to the organization that the members collect? With most Black Greek organizations, (NPHC) there are official and unofficial animal mascots that can be purchased in the forms or ceramics, art renderings and wood pieces. Many of these items can be found at regular stores.

  2. Step 2

Take the time to find out personalized information about the fraternity or sorority member. Find out their line name, number chapter of initiation and any other personal information that is important to the recipient. This information can be used to personalize gifts such as jackets, t-shirts, sweat shirts and other novelties.

  3. Step 3

Stick to the organization's official colors. Many stores sell the symbols of the organization in a variety of prints such as plaid and paisley. With Black Greek organizations, these are not acceptable methods of displaying symbols. All of the Black Greek "Divine Nine" organizations have two basic colors, (ex. purple and gold, black and gold, royal blue and white, crimson and cream.) If you are purchasing a t-shirt either stick with the organization's colors or purchase a white t-shirt with the symbols in the organization's color.

  4. Step 4

Wooden paddles and other wood gifts like plaques, clocks and organization crests are always a welcome Greek gift.

  5. Step 5

Because the Black Greek system prescribes to the "lifetime" theory, meaning membership continues through the Alumnae chapter, members must pay dues every year. One often neglected gift is offering to pay one year of the Greek member's dues. Dues from organization to organization vary.

  6. Step 6

Find a Greek Specialty store that has both personalized and merchandise ready for sale. There you can get ideas of gifts to purchase.

  7. Step 7

If you have a flare for the creative, visit your local craft store. There you will find materials needed to make personlized wood and craft gifts.
