Make sure you provide your employer with a resignation letter that is well written and includes sufficient notice of when your last day of employment will be. Sending an email resignation is not appropriate. Always provide a typed professional letter of resignation.

To assist your employer in filling your soon to be vacant position offer to help with job interviews of applicants. If a replacement is hired prior to you last day of employment offer to provide job training to the new hire. This will help ensure that job duties are transitioned smoothly.

Make sure you complete all your work and tie up any loose ends before your last day of employment. Schedule a time to meet with your boss or the person taking over your position prior to your last day. At this meeting review your workload and any items you were responsible for to ensure that they have the information necessary to take over your tasks.

Communicate with the human resources department of your company. Make sure you return all company property prior to your last day. This includes office keys and badges. Make sure you complete all exit interview procedures and leave on good term.
