Step 1
Invite friends and family by word of mouth or use evite.com to send your invitations. There is no need to purchase paper invitations or to mail anything forcing you to pay for postage (which is gets pricier every year).
-
Step 2
You don’t need to have a posh pad to throw your party. Clear your living space of any offensive or inappropriate decorations. If you want your guests to donate to your cause, you want to avoid making them feel uncomfortable. Sweep, wipe, dust, and whatever else you can do to tidy up your home. This will cost you nothing but a few cleaning supplies if you do not already have them stocked and your time.
-
Step 3
Perhaps your living space is too small to hold a formal gathering. Feel free to move your party to an outdoor location, as long as it doesn’t require you to rent space. Remember, you are on a budget and are trying to raise funds to pay your rent. You don’t want to have to pay for extra space. You may have a friend or relative who has a place that you can throw your party. Use your resources. The larger space you have to hold your party, the more people you can have attend to donate to your cause.
-
Step 4
Prepare simple hors d'œuvres. These hors d'œuvres do not need to be anything fancy, neither do they need to be expensive. Look through your local supermarket’s ad circular to watch for sales on items on sale that you feel will make great hors d'œuvres. Here are some inexpensive items you may be interested in serving: sandwiches (You can purchase these pre-made in the supermarket or prepare them yourself. One sandwich can serve many when cut into many pieces.), cheeses, olives, crackers, chips and dips, popcorn, pizza bites, carrots, celery, cookies and fruit pieces.
-
Step 5
Provide inexpensive drinks like punch or simple juices that can be purchased in large sizes. Feel free to ask your guests to bring their own beverages while you provide the food or vice versa.
-
Step 6
Be prepared to provide music. Use a simple CD or MP3 player to play background music for your party or have live entertainment, if you can get it for free. Perhaps you can play an instrument, know someone else who does, or even know a band that can play for free. Just be certain that you adhere to the noise policies of the location where you hold the party.
-
Step 7
Plan activities for your guests. Board games, card games, movies to watch, or opportunities to dance are all great ways to keep your guests happy and entertained. If you don’t have board games, card games, or interesting movies, borrow from your friends or family. Remember, use your available resources whenever you can to avoid any extra purchases.
-
Step 8
Decorate an empty coffee can, shoebox, or basket to collect guest offerings towards the end the party or carefully place it on a table where guests can easily see it to leave a donation any time during the party. Not very creative? Don’t worry. Simply label your coffee can, or whatever you decide to use, with a paper and tape whatever you decide to use to hold your donations.
