Painted cabinets can give a whole new look to a bathroom. Here’s some tips on how to pick a paint color for the cabinets.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

If your room is already decorated, try choosing an inspiration piece from the decor. This could be a picture or some accessory that you really like and want to use in the room. What are the primary colors in the picture or object? Which of these appeals to you? Can you pick one that will look good on the cabinets?

  2. Step 2

The cabinet in the bathroom is a large piece - make sure the color you pick is something you can live with and that won’t overpower the rest of the room’s decor.

  3. Step 3

If you are starting from scratch, look at decorating magazines or to other rooms in your house for colors you love. You want to try to have a color scheme for your house to tie the rooms together, so you might want to carry a color in from another room - even if it’s just an accent color in that room, it can be the main color in the bath. Tape paint sample chips from the store to the side of the cabinet and give yourself a few days to live with these - they will look different in different light and at different times of the day.

  4. Step 4

Make sure you prepare the cabinet properly for painting and choose the type of paint recommended for kitchens and baths. Usually this is a semi-gloss, but check with your paint store for their recommendations.
