Find Impact Position in The Golf Swing
Find Impact Position in The Golf Swing

Impact position in the golf swing refers to the position you are in at the moment your golf club makes contact with the ball. Finding the impact position in your golf swing can help you adjust to control trajectory and flight path without changing your golf swing. The proper impact position in the golf swing varies depending on the type of shot you are playing but some factors hold true.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Center of gravity must return to the ball during impact position in the golf swing.

  2. Step 2

Impact mirrors set up position with difference being weight traveling in a forward motion during the golf swing.

  3. Step 3

During swing impact, the lead side is moving out of the way to make room so the trailing half is moving through to strike the golf ball.

  4. Step 4

The hands are slightly forward with the golf club trailing at proper impact position.

  5. Step 5

The weight is slightly ahead of the golf ball during swing impact.

Tips & Warnings
  • To create a different impact position to influence ball trajectory (high or low) move the ball slightly forward or backward of center.
  • You can also control trajectory or ball flight by positioning your hands forward or even behind the ball at impact. Hands forward produces a lower ball flight at impact and back produces a higher flight.
