Just because it's summer, doesn't mean you can't have your cake eat it too. Who wants to spend the summer in a hot kitchen making dinner, let alone dessert? In part 1 of a 5 part series I am going to do on no-bake, cheap desserts, you can find out how to have cake all summer long, without having to actually bake a cake! To keep prices to a minumum, shop your local discount grocery store, such as Aldi's or Sav-A-Lot.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 13x9 pan
  • 2 - 3.5 oz packages Instant Vanilla Pudding ($.39x2= $.78)
  • 1 - 8 oz container frozen Whipped Topping, thawed ($.79)
  • 3 cups Milk ($.45 based on a $2.50 gallon)
  • 16 oz package Graham Crackers ($1.19)
  • 16 oz package Chocolate Frosting ($.99)
  • Total $4.20 or $.35 per serving (12 servings total)
  1. Step 1

In a medium bowl, thoroughly blend the pudding mix, whipped topping, and milk

  2. Step 2

Arrange a single layer of graham cracker squares in the bottom of a 13x9 inch baking pan. Evenly spread half of the pudding mixture over the crackers. Top with another layer of crackers and the remaining pudding mixture. Top with a final layer of graham crackers.

  3. Step 3

Remove frosting from container and place in a microwave safe bowl. Microwave on high for 30 seconds, stir and if not pourable, continue heating at 15 second intervals until a pourable consitancy. Pour frosting over the graham cracker layer. Cover and chill at least four hours. The longer it chills, the more "cakey" the graham crackers become.

Tips & Warnings
  • Allow time for the cake to chill and for the graham crackers to soften.
  • Feel free to use sugar free and fat free products. The results are just as yummy and healthier.
  • Shop at your local discount grocer for budget friendly items.
