Step 1
Not every state allows fireworks to be ignited. Be sure to check what is legal and what is not legal in your state before starting this 4th of July. Most states allow some form of firework if even just sparklers but be sure to confirm first.
-
Step 2
The best place to light off fireworks this 4th of July is in an open space that is far away from anything flammable. Most people will take that to mean gasoline but you also need to consider dead branches, grass or even dried wood around the neighborhood.
-
Step 3
You should have nearby a source of water ready. This could be a hose that is ready to go in case you need it or a bucket of water on hand to pour out on anything that starts to smoke in order to be sure there is no fire started from your fireworks on July 4th.
-
Step 4
Most fireworks have short fuses and therefore it is good to have an extended lighter on hand when setting off fireworks on the fourth of July. This gives you a chance to light and move away once you see that the fuse is ignited.
-
Step 5
You should be sure there are no children around when you set off the fireworks. July 4th is a family day. Keep your family safe when you light off fireworks. Fireworks can be unpredictable and fly off in any direction. They can be loud and dangerous. Keep children at a distance.
-
Step 6
Fireworks should be lit from a secured position and not from your hand or an unstable location.
-
Step 7
If a firework does not go off it is considered a dud. This fourth of July if you lit up a firework and it did not take off, dump your water on it and throw it in the garbage. It still could be active and you might not be aware so take caution when handling a dud.
