Step 1
Keep your refrigerator temperature from 35 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit (2 to 4C).
-
Step 2
Prepackaged meat, poultry and fish can be stored in their original wrapping. Do not store stuffed poultry that is cooked or uncooked in the refrigerator. Stuffing should be stored separately. Beef, pork and lamb can be stored for 2 to 4 days. Poultry and fish can be stored for 1 to 2 days.
-
Step 3
Dairy foods, such as milk, butter and margarine should be stored tightly covered so that they do not absorb odors. Milk can be stored for 1 week, and butter can be stored for 2 weeks.
-
Step 4
Cheese should be stored tightly because it can dry out. If mold forms on the cheese, just trim it away. Mold should not cause a change in taste. Cheese can be stored for 4 to 8 weeks.
-
Step 5
Fruits and vegetables should be stored in the crisper section of the refrigerator. Do not wash fruits and vegetables before storing them in the refrigerator, as this can cause brown spots.
