The job of a punk-Goth model is a good hobby for an alternative girl, but in order to make it into a career, you need to network and promote yourself, as well as distribute your pictures. After you have become confident in front of the camera and have found the solid poses that work for you and your body, you need to have professional pictures taken and put together in a portfolio.

1. Find a photographer and take some professional pictures of yourself. In order to become a punk-Goth model, you need to look the part. This does not mean you have to wear all black and dye your hair black, but it does mean that you need the utmost confidence and attitude in front of the camera. Clothes associated with punk and Goth include dark colors, but also neon colors like hot pink and blue. Clothing is usually ripped up, with netting or safety pins holding it together. Good stores to obtain clothing are Hot Topic, SubCulture Wear or Spencers, to name a few. The best way to obtain professional pictures of you modeling is to exchange the time modeling for free disks of the pictures.

2. Create your boundaries. Punk-Goth models are associated with vintage pinup photography, nude modeling, fetish and bondage. Know your limits of what you want to do, and work with people who understand that boundary. Do not let someone talk you into something you're not comfortable with.

3. Get a portfolio book, which you can obtain from a craft store such as Michael's, with laminated pages. Insert professional prints of your photographs into these pages, and keep a printed resume in the portfolio with your most up-to-date work. Document any photographers, clothing companies, model agencies or any other type of company with whom you have worked. Even if you didn't get paid, a long list of experience is worth more when you are starting out.

4. Create a website for yourself as a punk-Goth model. Post your picture and write a biography about yourself. The best places to start this out are websites such as MySpace, Facebook or Twitter. Connect with local photographers through the Internet to see if they will exchange time with you for a disk of pictures, and send images of yourself to punk and Goth clothing stores or photographers. If desired, create a catchy or seductive stage name for yourself.

5. Create business cards for yourself as a punk-Goth model. Hand them out as much as you can in order to network. It helps if you create them in a bright color, with a flattering modeling picture of yourself along with your contact information.

6. Go into, or send your pictures to, alternative modeling agencies such as Deviant Hair, Suicide Girls and Alternativ Model Management. They can help you get photo shoots and may eventually sign you so you can get paid regularly. Be persistent, and do not lose faith. This modeling business is just as hard to get into as others.
