How to Create a New Folder on a Mac

To organize files on a Mac computer, you need to add folders to your hard drive and catalog data into each one. You can add folders and create sub-folders in those folders. Folders are created through the Finder application and can be labeled with any title. When you create a new folder, it will remain empty until you manually drag files into it.

Instructions

    • 1

Click anywhere on the desktop of your Mac computer to switch to the Finder application.

    • 2

Go to the "File" menu at the top of the screen and choose "New Folder." A folder icon will appear on the screen and the text under the icon will be highlighted.

    • 3

Type in a name for the folder and press "Enter" to save your selection.

    • 4

Double-click on the new folder icon to open it.

    • 5

Organize your files by dragging and dropping them into the new folder. You can also create folders within that folder.
