Things You'll Need:
- Concave lens
- Convex lens
- Cardboard tubes
- Glue
- Wire
-
Step 1
Purchase two lenses. One should be concave and the other convex. The convex lens should be roughly one tenth larger than the concave lens.
-
Step 2
Look through the concave lens. Place the convex lens in front of it. Using both lenses you should be able to see distant objects more closely. Measure this distance between the lenses and double it.
-
Step 3
Purchase or make two cardboard tubes. The tubes should be as long as the measurement between the two lenses. The first should fit over the second easily.
-
Step 4
Attach the convex lens to one end of the larger tube. The lens can be fastened in place with metal wires, paper clips or hot glue.
-
Step 5
Place the concave lens at the opposite end of the smaller tube. The lens can be fastened in place with metal wires, paper clips or hot glue. Use this lens as your eyepiece.
-
Step 6
Take the telescope out at night. Place one eye against the lens. You should be able to see objects in the sky more closely. Telescopes work especially well in dark areas with little artificial light. Consider leaning against a reclining chase to provide support for your head and neck when you use the telescope.
