How to Use Partition Magic

Norton Partition Magic is a program that allows you to create, convert, copy or resize hard drive partitions for a number of different computer operating systems. Created by Symantec, Partition Magic is just one of the many partition software tools available on the market, but has the trust and reliability of the Norton software brand.

Instructions

  1. Delete a Partition

      Install the program on your computer by placing the disk in the appropriate drive or by clicking on the downloaded program file. Follow the onscreen instructions to fully load the program on your computer. Reboot if prompted by your computer.

      Click on the "Start" button on your computer and then "All Programs." Locate the folder "Norton Partition Magic" and then click on the "Norton Partition Magic" execution file.

      Click on "Delete Partition" on Partition Magic's main screen.

      Click the appropriate button to confirm that you wish to delete the existing partition on the drive.

      Click "Apply" from the actions window to complete the process.

    Other Uses

      Create a new partition on an existing hard drive by clicking on "Create a new partition" on the main screen. This will allow you to allocate space for a second operating system or for special project files.

      Click on "Resize Partition" on the main screen to change the amount of space allocated to an existing partition on your hard drive. The amount of space can be either increased or decreased depending on your needs.

      Clone or ghost a hard drive by clicking on "Copy a partition" on the main screen. Select the drive you wish to copy and the destination drive and all files and partitions will be mirror imaged on a second hard drive.

      Join two or more partitions into a single partition on your existing hard drive by clicking on "Merge partitions". This can be useful if you need more space on your primary "C:" drive.

      Click on "Undo" under "General" on the text menu at the top of the screen to undo the last disk change you have made in case you make a mistake.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always back up all important data from your hard drive before doing any partition work on the drive. Mistakes can be made and data can be lost when undoing or changing hard drive specifications.
