Instructions

    • 1

Remove the old bulbs and place them in a safe location. Florescent lamps contain mercury so be careful not to drop or crack them.

    • 2

Disconnect the power to the fixture. Either unplug it or find the correct breaker to disconnect the power.

    • 3

Locate the metal tabs or screws on the fixture that hold the panel in place. After removing these screws, you should see a black box with wires coming out of it. This is the ballast.

    • 4

Cut the wires and unscrew the old ballast. Next, strip the wires and twist the ends together.

    • 5

Screw in the new ballast and strip the wires on the new ballast.

    • 6

Match up the color coded wires and reconnect the wires using the yellow wire caps to cover the bare wire ends. Then, reattach the panel.

    • 7

Install the bulbs and reconnect the electricity. The new ballast will provide clean light and will not produce a buzzing or humming noise.

Tips & Warnings

  • Try to buy a ballast that matches the brand of your fixture.

  • Fluorescent lamps contain mercury, so do not drop them. Electricity can kill you, so disconnect the fixture before servicing.
